The History of Inlaid Wood Floors

Inlaid wood floors first became fashionable in Europe during the Medieval Period. The installation process was extremely labor intensive since all of the pieces had to be cut and assembled on site by skilled craftsmen.

Centuries later, inlaid wood floors are more practical and popular than ever. At Olde World Flooring Co., we are proud to introduce our beautiful decorative inlays and borders that can be easily installed in any hardwood floor.

These intricate designs are precision cut from 5/16" thick solid hardwoods. Green poplar and purpleheart are used for grapevines and thistles while roses are usually bloodwood or chakte kok.

Once cut, these pieces are set into a background of birch, maple, or oak and framed with Peruvian walnut. This pre-assembled design is then laminated to multi-ply Baltic birch to match the thickness of your floor.
